After many years, it was finally time to get my dive ticket (Julie got hers long ago.) so I went along to a 4-day Open Water Dive Course organized by Australasian Diving Academy on Stirling Highway, Nedlands. With 5 other students, our instructor Rhys ran through all the basics. I would highly recommend the ADA and Rhys – they were very professional.
The first day was in the classroom and pool. The next day was again in the pool and then into the Swan River.
Finally on the third day we were allowed to dive in the ocean – at the Bell Park Wreck Trail just off the coast at Rockingham. There are several small boats and plane fuselages lying on the bottom in 16m.

The last day made SCUBA converts of us all. We boarded Perth Diving Academy‘s boat for a day diving on Rottnest Island. We completed two first-rate dives – on Swirl Reef and then at Marjorie Caves. On top of numerous fish species, we saw rays, crayfish, seals and a pod of dolphin.
